The Year of Getting to Know Us
When I first got to meet Patrick, his mantra was to "surprise and delight". We used a small ensemble made up of a string quartet, two flutes, clarinet and a piano for most of the score. There were also a number of different organs that we used to build the harmonic foundation. We also used a Waltz to give us that perpetual motion and meandering harmony that keeps moving onto the next place, rather than returning and repeating. This provided an unpredictability to the music that supported the idea of the great change in the main characters life. All the while keeping the music pleasing to create a sense of safety.
